We are an established writing critique group looking to add a few new members. This group is for writers of literary fiction only, whether that be novel segments or short stories. We meet on the first Sunday of the month (unless it's a major holiday) in D.C. and critique two to three stories that have been passed out and read ahead of time. We're a dedicated group of writers who have been meeting for three years, so we are cautious about bringing in new members. We'll want to meet you and see ho …

This group is for support for the nonfiction writer. We have very different needs than fiction writers which we can support each other on. Like any other writers' group, we can pass around samples of our writing for critique and feedback. I write in the area of personal growth, but any nonfiction writing is welcome.
Meetup details are available only to members.
We meet every first and third Wednesday evening of the month to exchange critiques of our writing. This is a group for dedicated writers of young adult and juvenile genres working towards publication.

Are you writing a book or thinking about it? Are you published or wanting to publish? This group is for you if you are a writer at heart, regardless of where you are in your writing career and progress. I'm starting this group because I'm writing a non-fiction book, and I want to create a community of writers who will share their work and critique mine and each other's. The format I envision goes something like this: Who ever has material can either read their own out loud to the group or ask so …
ArtKlub is a group of friends who are local Northern Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, and Washington DC artists that meet weekly for fun, self-education and encouragement, and to obtain critiques and try vet new ideas. Sometimes we're pencil to paper, sometimes we're discussion and goofing off. We are there to create, inspire, and share. We help hold each other accountable to making deadlines for commissions, when asked to do so. This is not like book club, sipping tea and having intellect …

I hope this group will attract others artists, but anyone interested is welcome. Activities may include visits to museum and gallery exhibits, critiques and discussions of works created by members, or social gatherings with like-minded people. The group may become more focused as it develops. More information on the About page: [http://art.meetup.com/328/about/]
The Washington DC Write to Publish Group is unlike most writers’ groups which focus on critiquing each other’s work. Instead this group is dedicated to the "business side" of writing and educate authors (and would be authors) on what they can expect as they go from finished project to available for sale. Much of what is covered in these seminars can also be found online here: http://www.write2publish.blogspot.c

I just got back from an amazing year in Edinburgh, Scotland. While there, I was a member of a creative writing group where I met some fantastic writers. I want to start a similar group in the DC area because I know we have many great writers in the area as well. So here we are. The group brings together writers of all ages and from all walks of life. Whether you are a new writer or have published, all are welcome. If writing is your life, search for a group no longer. The format will be writer …
The purpose of the group is for local writers to be able to gather and receive constructive criticism of their writing. The group includes several published authors in fiction, science fiction, fantasy and alternate history. I would prefer any new members to be mature adults; this is not to dissuade teens from writing, but rather to encourage them to form or join writing groups aimed at their demographic. I want this group to feel free to write and discuss possibly mature themes and writing genr …
This group is for anyone and everyone who loves crime related movies! These movies may be old, new, or anything in between! We can change our location periodically to shake things up; but we will do many of our movie meetups at the Gallery Place theater. I work at the National Museum of Crime and Punishment down the street; so I can offer you half price museum tickets on our movie nights! There are also a lot of restaurants/bars in the area for discussion following the movie. I'm looking in to g …

This is a group for writers who want to grow in the craft and help others grow. This group is dedicated to writers of all genres. If you need a push to pick up your pen or laptop, we are the group for you. The goal is to remind writers why they started writing in the first place, and why they still write. This is a safe haven and learning environment for writers. For those who are scared to show their work, I encourage you to join this group. This is a nurturing group. Although honest, th …

We are a group of writers who enjoy imaginative, perhaps even offbeat, fiction. Our goal is to write well--or at least better--but with the freedom to make mistakes. We are not here to necessarily produce polished, publishable fiction, but to rather to carve out a space where writers can experiment and have fun in a relaxed and supportive environment. Speculative fiction--which includes science fiction, horror, steampunk, dystopian fiction, and fantasy genres--allows writers of fiction an oppor …

Imagination is but useless if it does not have a place to go. Different people use different mediums to express their thoughts. This group is aimed at those who find the pen the vessel to express their flights of fancy, intrigue and mischief. We hope to provide a open environment to encourage collaboration, critique and community. Amateurs to professionals are welcome, to share their thoughts, their stories and their experiences.
… There is no instructor; instead, each speech and meeting is critiqued by a member in a positive manner, focusing on what was done right and what could be improved. We are a diverse group from all walks of life, joined by common interests in improving ourselves and supporting and helping each other improve. We invite you to join us, and we welcome you!
Every month we'll be getting together at the Duke Street Annex of the Art League School to share tips about technique and gear, (gently) critique each other's work, listen to presentations by professionals and to just enjoy the company of other folks who are into photography, regardless of whether its done through film, ditital, or some other technology we haven't come considered yet. The group has a wide range of experience levels, from folks just starting out to professionals who've worked …
